To the general delight of all owners iDevice, Dev Team announced the release of utilities Redsn0w 0.9.9b5, which allows you to jailbreak iOS 5 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod touch.

The news was announced the group leader MuscleNerd. The fifth beta update is a major Redsn0w update utility, the benefits of which are not only able to exercise jailbreak iOS 5 for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, but also allows you to make a custom firmware for iPhone users.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 provides tethered jailbreak for all iOS 5 devices except the iPhone 3GS with the old bootrom. The tethered jailbreak requires that you connect to your computer iDevice on every reboot.

Note :

  • Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 does not jailbreak the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, built on the chip A5.
  • This is bound{tethered} jailbreak, so the iOS-device must be connected to a computer on every reboot.
  • With high probability for the appearance of unattached jailbreak iOS 5 you will have to recreate the firmware in iTunes.
  • For users of Gevey SIM or Ultrasn0w have a look at “only unlock” at the end the post.

Jailbreak iOS 5 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad and iPod touch with Redsn0w

Step 1 : Download and install iTunes 10.5 for Windows or Mac. Connect iDevice to your computer.

Step 2 : Update iOS-device to iOS 5 using iTunes 10.5. Download the final version of iOS 5 from here .

Step 3 : Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 for Windows / Mac  and run the program.

Step 4 : Click the option ‘Jailbreak iOS 5′. Select the «Install Cydia» and click on «Next».

Step 5 : Make sure your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad are switched off and are connected to the computer. Then click on «Next»


Now, Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 will start the jailbreak process of iOS 5, but before that you need to put the device in the DFU mode.

  • The program will prompt further actions. 

    • Hold down the lock button for 3 seconds.
    • Without releasing the lock, press the Home button for 10 seconds.
    • Hold down the Home button and release the lock.
    • Keep holding the Home button for 30 seconds, then will start the procedure of jailbreak. When you see a gray background on the screen, release the home button.

Step 6 : Redsn0w will Jailbreak iOS 5. The procedure is very fast. After the automatic reboot you will have iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad on iOS 5 with jailbreak.

Step 7 : To download iPhone and iPad in the bound mode, go to «Extras» and click «Just boot». From this point on, every time you restart your iOS-device you need to connect it to your computer and transfer mode jailbreak iOS 5 with this function Redsn0w

Only for unlocking

If you want to unlock with Gevey SIM or Ultrasn0w (only the old baseband), you can not update via the official firmware. Use the latest version of Redsn0w to create custom IPSW-file which is without an updated baseband «how to unlock the iphone with Ultrasn0w 1.2.4 or Gevey SIM.

To create custom firmware, go to the Extras section and select the Custom IPSW. Specify the original IPSW file of iOS 5 , and then continue to build the firmware. After the procedure, put the iOS-device in DFU mode by clicking Pwned DFU section of Extras, and restore the custom firmware through iTunes. After completing the steps unlock your iPhone using Gevey SIM or updated Ultrasn0w.
